Accommodation in Casa Guadalest
Our walking and wellness retreat is located in the mountains next to the historic village of Callosa den Sarria, well know for its unique Nispero fruit and Moors and Christians festival. Very close by are the waterfalls of the Algar and the historic Casa de Guadalest. The retreat itself overlooks the magnificent Sierra Bernia mountain range and has incredible mountain and sea views.
The charming retreat itself has 6 double bedrooms and three modern bathrooms throughout with a wealth of facilities including. Wonderful gardens with fruit trees from grapes and figs to oranges and lemons, almonds and much more. On the premises you can also find:

– spa zone with bespoke wood burning Finish Sauna, swimming pool and Jacuzzi,
– fully equipped 130m2 Gymnasium,
– games room with Brunswick American pool table,

Walking around Casa Guadalest
At Casa Guadalest the walking is suitable for all abilities. The terrain is easy to moderate with wonderful rolling hills to moderate mountain walks. Along our walks you will see a plethera of wildlife and fauna with beautiful flowers of such vibrant colours. Its quite amazing how much wildlife we have from birds of prey to wonderful butterflies, dragon flies and many spices of birds.
We provide our very own walking guide to the area with all the necessary information including walk descriptions, what to see on the walks and include elevation and distances. The walks start from our retreat or a very short ride from the retreat. All routes are circular and fully guided and supported.
Walking holiday itinerary
All the walks can be tailored for specific requirements and needs.
Day 1 – Arrival day
Day 2 – Sierra Bernia
6 miles, 5hrs, 2100 feet elevation, circular route
A spectacular circular route nestled in the Sierra de Bernia, in the municipality of Jalón. A mountainous massif located near the Mediterranean coast. The views here are simply breathtaking overlooking the vast Mediterranean sea and down over beautiful villages of Calpe, Altea and Ablir. During this walk you will discover the ancient ruins of the Bernia Fort, a Renaissance military fortress ordered by Philip II in 1562, in order to defend the coast from the attack of the Ottomans.
Day 3 – Puig Campana
The majestic Puig Campana is one of the most iconic and mysterious mountains in our region.
The trail is relatively easy and takes about 4.5 hours to complete. Starting at 1152 feet above sea level and rising to a height of 3084 feet giving us total amount of gained elevation of 1923 feet.
This is a circular route taking in some of the finest views of the Mediterranean sea to be had.
As we begin the hike one can see the characteristic and almost perfect cleft of the mountain called El Portillo which has given rise to several legends and those that are an inseparable part of this mountain and its population. Amazing views of the Mediterranean sea and the Penon in Calpe can be appreciated from here.
Day 4 – Guadalest
Situated up high in the mountains is the historic village and Castel Guadalest.
An ancient Moorish castle which overlooks the surrounding mountains and Mediterranean sea as well is its impressive reservoir and dam.
A relatively easy circular walk starting 750 feet above sea level and rising to 987 feet with 551 feet of gained elevation, and takes around 4 hours.
Day 5 – Almedia trail
This trail starts directly from the door of Casa Guadalest retreat. It offers some of the most impressive and panoramic views of the local area. Starting at 797 feet above sea level and finishing at 2229 feet with 1562 feet of gained elevation, this circular hike is of moderate intensity.
As we embark on this hike, we wander through the beautiful mountain path and road, named Partida Onaer. This region is world famous for growing fruit especially Nispero or medlars which are delicious plum sized fruit orange in colour and some can see the trees and the farmers working.
Day 6 – Casa Guadalest to the beautiful coastal town Altea along the Algar river bed
This route starts from base at Casa Guadalest and finishes on the Coast at a very beautiful seaside town called Altea, famous for its wonderful cobbled streets and white washed houses overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Starting elevation is 824 feet descending all the way down to 18 feet. This is a lovely easy hike along an dry river bed with its many twists and turns.
Day 7 – Abir lighthouse and across the national park Sierra Gelada
Starting this hike in the Ablir, a coastal town we embark on a fabulous walk to the famous lighthouse here, el Torre del Albir. A wonderful winding and twisting pathway where you will see some of the most incredible views of the Mediterranean and its surrounding villages. Along this route there are some interesting sites such as an old ochre mine and even more amazing fossils in the rocks millions of years old.

Casa Guadalest runs walking holidays from September to November and then from March to June. We have a fixed price for our fully escorted walking holiday:
– £875.- per person based on 2 sharing.
– £935.- for your own room.
If you prefer to walk at your own pace you can choose the self-guided option, which is £810.- per person based on two people sharing, or £910.- if you prefer your own room.
We have no minimum group size and welcome individuals, couples and groups.
Airport transfers to Alicante Airport can be arranged at an additional cost.
