Fulufjellet National Park in Norway: unspoilt natural beauty
When most people think of Norway they think of the Fjords. But this beautiful country has far more to offer. One of these places is Trysil.
Trysil is home to one of Norway’s newest National Parks, Fulufjellet National Park. The landscape of Fulufjellet consists of mountain plateaus and uninterrupted forests. And unlike most areas in Europe it’s still very wild and has a large population of Elk (or Moose for American readers). It’s also home to Norway’s four large predators – Bears, Wolves, Wolverines and Lynx.
About Fulufjellet National Park
Fulufjellet NP runs along the Swedish border and has another National Park on its side as well. So wildlife can move freely into Norway from Sweden, and because of this Fulufjellet is playing a big part in helping wildlife numbers grow in Norway.
As Trysil has a varied landscape it’s a great area for outdoor activities such as horseback riding and whitewater rafting. This helps make it such a popular destination for Norwegians and foreign tourists alike.
Fulufjellet NP is in a great location. It’s close enough to get there through a short car ride to enjoy these activities, but far enough to make it feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.
Walking Wildlife Safari
Now you have the chance to explore this amazing area with the walking wildlife safari in the Fulufjellet National Park! This tour is more than just a wildlife holiday – it also includes Norwegian history, folklore, bushcraft, whitewater rafting and horseback riding. But of course wildlife makes up the majority of this tour.
A different approach
As I was trained in South Africa, I have a different style compared to many European guides who prefer to stay in a vehicle or a hide. I’m a trails guide so this tour will be a real walking safari. I like to get people closer to nature through the smells, tastes and sights. You’ll be able to smell the formic acid of carpenter ants, relax and enjoy the taste of pine needle tea, and most importantly watch wildlife on foot. This will give you a much better experience than watching them from a vehicle.
A little bit of comfort goes a long way
Even though you’ll be in a National Park this doesn’t mean you can’t have luxuries! You’ll be staying in a large tent with multiple bedrooms, so you’ll have your own space. The tent also has a wood stove for comfort and for cooking food and it’s nice to sit around the wood stove or a camp-fire at night to relax after a long day of walking and exploring.
You’ll be sleeping in your camping bed and mattress to give you the best possible night’s sleep! There’s a portable toilet, shower and solar panel chargers for your phones and cameras so even in the wilderness you don’t have to worry about battery life when taking photos!
