Walking in beautiful Brittany
The walking in our area is mainly easy but the coastal paths are sometimes challenging. Whilst walking you are able to see stunning coastal views, beautiful coastlines whilst inland you can admire the rolling countryside with all it little churches and old houses and farms built with granite. You can also expect to see many forms of nature including a host of bird species, pinemartins, deer and slowworms for example.
The walks are all relatively local and several start on the path from our back garden gate with some up to a maximum of 40 minute drive. Most of the walks are between 10 to 30 minutes’ drive. All the walks are circular although walkers can choose to alter them if desired. A car is necessary for this holiday and walking is all year round.
Beautiful Brittany walking itinerary
Here is an example of some of the walks available
Doelan Round Route
Option A – Walking 19km, walking time approximately 4 hours
This is one of our favourite walks which will show you the beautiful diversity of the inland countryside and its different houses and buildings together with the stunning coastline and pretty fishing port of Doelan. This route, all on the GR34, takes you from the mouth of the river Merrien, where there are boat moorings and a cocquillage and along the stunning coastline to the pretty port of Deolan. There are several restaurants in Doelan or benches with sea views for lunch or drinks. The walk then takes you back to the start through the wonderful countryside passing old chapels and small hamlets on tree lined paths, and quiet local roads.
Option B – Walking 12km, walking time approximately 2 hours 30mins.
This route has the same start point but cuts down to the coast via small villages such as chef du bois and St Thamec on country paths and lanes and joins the coast at Portec you then continue on to Deolan as with option A.
Port Manech round route from our garden to Port Manech
Walking time approximately 3 hours
You start the walk from our back garden which joins a path which will take you past the back of Rospico botanical gardens and Rospico horse ranch. You will pass many beautiful houses and areas and eventually meet the GR34 coastal path at the River Aven estuary; here you will pass scented pine trees and see boats, sailing to and from their moorings at Kedruc, up to Pont Aven and down to Port Manech. Just after the old chapel you will arrive at the plage de Port Manech with wonderful views of the coastline and sea. Further along the path you arrive at the Port and then along the coast returning to Rospico beech and then our back garden! There is also an option to come along the path adjacent to the coastal path which is equally enjoyable and will shorten the length of the walk by 25 minutes. There is a brasserie at Port Manech, which looks out to see, where you can stop for a drink or food.
Pendruc round route
Walking time approximately 1 hour 20 mins
This walk takes you around the Pendruc peninsular on the GR34 where you will see views across to Le Cabellou, and down the coast where Concarneau, Fouesnant and Benodet can be found in one direction. As you round the coast you can admire pine trees with attractive coastal properties ranging from old Breton thatched cottages to more designer holiday homes. You will pass the Plage de Pouldohan with its golden sand and granite rocks. There are plenty of benches and seating areas to relax and enjoy the views.
Cabellou round route

This walk takes you around Le Cabellou using the GR 34 coastal path that offers you wonderful views of Concarneau, with its walled old town fortress, and the coastline of le Porzou looking from the Plage de la Belle Etolle.
