With this walking holiday you will explore the world’s most beautiful mountains from the South Tyrol’s prettiest valley.

On a Collett’s Walking Holiday in the Italian Dolomites, you can arrive in the magnificent Alta Badia on the day you choose and stay for as long as you wish.

Every day – except Wednesdays – you can join one of two breathtaking walks, both free and optional. One is a higher level harder hike, the other a moderate easier walk, rich in flora, fauna and beautiful scenery. There are also organised wildflower walks (June & July), World War Walks (August) – and every Monday & Friday we offer a painting stroll and a road cycle tour. Or you can do self-guided walks of any grade. Simply choose day to day the option that takes your fancy. We can also help you do Via Ferrata, glacier treks and various alpine activities. You can plan your days each early evening at Office Hour; over a pre-dinner drink, browse maps and chat with our walkers, perhaps signing up to one of our walks or using their extensive knowledge to plan self guiding.

As with everything at Collett’s, we offer you choice and flexibility where accommodation is concerned. Whether you are driven by budget or by a desire to self indulge, all our accommodation is delightful and we should have something just right. Whatever you choose, you are always a guest of Collett’s. You are therefore welcome at Office Hour, where you can sign up to any of the organised walks that take your fancy, plan self guided walking, book locally supplied activities or acquire information on places of interest. You are also welcome to drop in anytime to one of our chalet hotels for help or local information.

Our chalet hotels are immensely popular. They combine the relaxed feeling of being ‘at home’ with the bonus of being well looked after and superbly fed. Add to this the really pleasant social dynamic that prevails when guests have had an inspirational day out and then sit down for a delicious three course dinner (with wine included) in the good company of other guests, who have largely similar interests. Many guests return year after year for this genuinely charming atmosphere, not to mention the beautiful locations, attractive en suite bedrooms, access to local information and our warm ever-present hospitality.

Walking in the Italian Dolomites

For walkers, we offer memorable days out in an area with UNESCO World Heritage status. Our two resorts provide superb access to beautiful walks of all grades.

We are flanked by two natural parks: the Fanes to the east, stretching dramatically towards Cortina, and by the Puez-Odle to the west, extending equally dramatically to the Val Gardena. To the south, we have a vast natural plinth, Monte Sella (3152m) and our highest peak, the Marmolada (3343m), Queen of the Dolomites. Our walks are tried and tested gems, off the beaten track – breathtaking. Easier options are punctuated by exquisite wildflower meadows, sleepy hamlets, traditional farmsteads, riverside and woodland tracks, whilst the challenging itineraries will expose you to the most dramatic rock formations in the world.

Daily, Free & Optional – Unfailingly Breathtaking
Your stay will surely be enhanced by our own walkers. You can join them day to day on stunning walks – except Wednesdays, our local day-off. You simply choose the walk that takes your fancy – see below. All our walks take place in a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. Armed with a packed lunch (available to all guests at €6 each), we generally set out at about 9am and, depending on the itinerary, return to the village in the mid or late afternoon, allowing you enough time to relax after the walk, maybe over a drink on the terrace or a stroll into the village.

Self-Guiding Ideas & Information
Daily access to the extensive local knowledge of our own walkers

Some days – or every day even – you might prefer to walk independently. The intimate knowledge of our own walkers is available every evening at Office Hour, where you can browse maps with them and create a succession of wonderful self-guided walks to suit your ambitions. You can also refer to our invaluable Ideas & Information Files, which feature many walks of all grades, from idyllic riverside or meadow strolls to challenging and dramatic high trails. For each walk we give the duration, ascent, degree of difficulty and the relevant section of map. You can also borrow on a daily basis an easy-to-carry Route Laminate for each itinerary. The files also contain numerous Via Ferrata options, scenic drives, places of interest, bike rides, ideas for rainy days (as if!) and other days out.
