This Hiking holiday begins in Porto Côvo (Alentejo) and ends at Arrifana Beach (Algarve). Here you’ll find wonderful walking along cliffs and beaches following direction South.
You’ll be walking the best parts of the Rota Vicentina’s Historical way and Fishermen’s Trail, along the most unspoiled coastal stretch of the Vicentina Coast Natural Park.
Accommodation in the Alentejo & Algarve
Along this walking route you will stay in B&B accommodations located in small towns along the walking route. During your booking process we will provide you an accommodation list from which you can pick between standard and upgrade hotels, all these with breakfast included as well as private rooms with ensuite bathroom.
There are restaurants and grocery stores in every village, a recommended restaurant list is provided.
Walking in the Alentejo & Algarve
Always by the Atlantic Ocean, following old paths made by the fishermen, it is a single-track trail along the shoreline cliffs of the Alentejo and Algarve southwest coast, where you will experience the scent of the sea permanently while you explore this rugged coastline.
This is the ideal place to eat fresh fish and seafood caught just a few meters from the coast. At the end of this wonderful walking holiday you will find the Aljezur village, founded by the Moors in the 10th century, guarding an important part of this region’s history.
Alentejo & Algarve walking holiday itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival at Vila Nova de Milfontes. Briefing at the first Hotel. Arriving to Vila Nova de Milfontes, located between the Mira River and the Atlantic Ocean, this beautiful small town offers great panoramic views, and a lot of places to enjoy the best of Nature, while you start to get used to this relaxing environment of Alentejo.
Day 2 – From Porto Covo – Vila de Milfontes. We will take you to the beginning (Porto Côvo) of this wonderful walk along the shoreline always with a marvellous sea view. Starting in a historical village called Porto Côvo, passing a small Island called “Ilha do Pessegueiro” with the option to go by the beach taking advantage of the hard sand or going a little bit more inland thru the dunes. You will discover some stunning beaches, most of them desert, and near the end you will pass by the Milfontes fishing harbour, just before you reach the town. Daily distance: 20km – 6h
Day 3 – From Vila Nova de Milfontes to Longueira/Almograve. Easy walk along the coastline by sand dunes and along cliff tops. You will find some deserted beaches and after that you’ll encounter a tiny fishing village called Almograve. From there you can have a rest and try local gastronomy, fish or seafood will certainly be good choices. Daily distance: 17Km – 5h
Day 4 – Route between Almograve & Zambujeira. Heading south from the small village of Almograve, you can take a short detour to the tiny fishing harbour called “Entrada da Barca”. Walking between dunes and cliffs with panoramic views. Along this route cliff-nesting storks can be seen. Through Cavaleiro and past the centenary lighthouse of Cabo Sardão the day ends in Zambujeira do Mar, where you can enjoy the beautiful sunset by the church. Daily distance: 22km – 6h
Day 5 – From Zambujeira Do Mar to Odeceixe. A coastal path near the beaches leads us onto Carvalhal bay, past the former residence of the famous “fado” singer Amália Rodrigues, passing “Azenha do Mar” where you can try an amazing seafood meal (the arbour is just 300 meters distance from the restaurant). After this you will have the energy needed to get to Odeceixe´s River and reach the first village in the Algarve. Daily distance: 21km – 6h.
Day 6 – From Odeceixe to Aljezur. Leaving Odeceixe, your path will continue near the southwest coast, passing by “Ceixe´s” river bank and following south entering the Algarve Region. You will walk in the direction of the Moorish village of Aljezur. Daily distance: 22km – 6h
Day 7 – From Aljezur & Arrifana Beach. Today you can spend a part of the day to explore the old part of Aljezur, walking up to the top of the Castle, passing through the old narrow streets, or you can explore further south until Arrifana beach. At the end we will provide you a taxi to return from the beach to your Hotel at Aljezur. Daily distance: 18km – 5h

The starting date of this holiday is completely flexible and ading extra days to this holiday is also possible. The Single room supplement is €180.
