Torrox, the base of this guided walking holiday, is situated in a delightful part of Spain; Andalucia.

In Andalucia you’ll find green hills, white villages, huge nature reserves, orchards of orange and olive trees and snowcapped mountain ranges with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Andalucia is one of the warmest regions of Europe. It has a temperate, Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters with irregular rainfall. This part of Spain is perfect for walking in autumn, winter and spring.

The areas where you’ll go walking offer varied terrain, wonderful views of the coasts and the mountains and a variety of flora and fauna.

You will love walking in and around Torrox. With its narrow medieval streets, whitewashed homes nestled into the hillside, old ladies sitting in wooden chairs gossiping, and children playing in the streets, the whole area is very picturesque. During the walking holiday you’ll stay in this lovely traditional Spanish village and enjoy the best climate in Europe with over 300 days of sunshine each year.

Day 1 – You meet with Walk Andalucia at Malaga Airport in Southern Spain. Transfer to your house in Torrox Pueblo by private transport. To take advantage of the free airport transfer flights MUST arrive into Malaga airport BEFORE 12.00 noon. A private taxi can be arranged for other arrival times. Fare paid by the guest to the driver. After settling into your accommodation, you can join the other guests for a welcome lunch.

Day 2 – A rural walk through lush fertile Rio Torrox valley. Look out for olive trees, almond, orange, lemon, nispero, chirimoya, banana, avocado and a wide range of vegetables. A steep climb to a ridge is rewarded with spectacular 360° views, including the Sierra Almijara, La Maroma, Frigiliana, Nerja, and of course the Mediterranean Sea. Drop down to village via late lunch at Maria’s Cortijo, and then walking back to the village via an ancient cattle route.

Day 3 – Varied walking to the tower of Maro, views of the Mediterranean coast along the cliff tops. Then walking inland through quiet unspoiled countryside via the Arroyo de los Colmenarejos (dry river valley named after the beekeepers who still use this area for honey making). Pass under a natural stone arch and climb to a remote ruined farm with lovely views of higher peaks and down to the sea – a perfect picnic spot! Walking back via the river valley.

Day 4 – Walk high above white village of Periana along disused railway track. You’ll be walking through scenic open countryside alongside impressive crags. Superb views of Lake Vinuela and Axarquia’s highest peak, La Maroma (over 2 kilometres high!).

Day 5 – Rest Day during which you can explore the village or go on a walk by yourself.

Day 6 – Walking through the pretty village of Maro. We’ll walk up a narrow, forested canyon to a remote ruin with fabulous sea and mountain views – our lunch stop! Climb to the foot of high sierras, and descend through pine forest and walk through a second canyon with completely different flora.

Day 7 – Stunning high level walk through remote, wild hillsides with incredible views of Sierra Almijara. Lunch on sheltered terrace of ruined farmhouse with lovely views down to Torrox and the sea. We regularly see Ibex and eagles on this walk.

Day 8 – After breakfast you’ll be transferred to Malaga Airport. To take advantage of the free airport transfer flights MUST depart Malaga airport AFTER 12.00 noon. Farewell from Walk Andalucia.
